Atikokan Fire Rescue consists of one full time Fire Chief, one Deputy Fire Chief, a Fire Prevention Officer, Six Captains and 20 volunteer fire service members.

The primary goal of the Atikokan Fire Rescue is to provide fire protection, education and rescue services through a range of programs designed to protect the lives and property of the inhabitants from the adverse effects of fire, sudden medical emergencies, or exposure to dangerous conditions created by man or nature.

Atikokan Fire Rescue provides the following services to the community of Atikokan.

  1. Structural firefighting, internal rescue & fire suppression.
  2. Vehicle firefighting
  3. Grass, brush firefighting
  4. Emergency First Response with AED defibrillation
  5. Awareness level hazardous material response
  6. Vehicle Accidents
  7. Vehicle extrication
  8. Transportation incidents involving, vehicles, aircraft, and watercraft
  9. Water and ice rescue
  10. Public assistance
  11. Assistance to other agencies
  12. Mutual aid
  13. Approved agreements
  14. Participation in community emergency plan
  15. Fire Prevention and Public Education
  16. Inspection and investigations.

Applying for a Burn Permit

Apply for your permit using the secure, online portal linked above. After completing your application and paying the required fee (in person at Town Hall or via etransfer to finance@atikokan.ca), your application is submitted electronically and you will receive notification (text, email or phone) when your application is processed.

Complete an application and submit it to the Atikokan Municipal Office. Please be advised that burn permit applications are subject to approval and may take up to 24 hours depending on staff availability.

Fireworks

In accordance with By-Law 30-17 – Fireworks, no person shall discharge any consumer fireworks without a permit. Every application for a permit shall be made to the Fire Chief a minimum of 21 days prior to the event when the proposed discharge of fireworks is to occur.

Fire Bans and Restricted Fire Zones (RFZ)

When a town-wide fire ban is issued or a Restricted Fire Zone is declared by the Province, all burn and fireworks permits are cancelled until such time that the restrictions are lifted.

Current fire ban status: FIRE BAN IN EFFECT

Due to the extremely dry conditions Atikokan Fire Rescue has issued a Total Fire Ban within the municipal boundary. Effective immediately May 30th 2023 all existing permits are immediately suspended.
